Diamond Carat
LUXSSO DIAMOND CARAT CHART
- Carat weight can appear differently across different diamond shapes such as round brilliant, princess, pear, oval, cushion, marquise, emerald, radiant or heart.
- A diamond may have a higher carat weight without appearing larger and two diamonds of the same carat weight can vary in size if one is cut deeper than the other. In other words, it is important to note that carat weight does not necessarily denote size.
- Sizes are shown for proportionality purposes. Images do not reflect actual carat size.

APPROXIMATE CARAT WEIGHT SIZE
Carat is often confused with the size of a diamond even though it’s actually a unit that measures its weight. Today, one carat is equal to 0.2 grams
HOW DIAMOND CARAT IS WEIGHTED?
- Carat is the unit of measurement for the physical weight of diamonds. One carat equals 0.200 grams or 1/5 gram and is subdivided into 100 points. This allows exact measurements to the hundredth decimal place. A jeweller may describe the weight of a diamond below one carat by its ‘points’ alone.
- For instance, the jeweller may refer to a diamond that weighs 0.50 carats as a ‘fifty pointer.’ Diamond weights greater than one carat are expressed in carats and decimals. A 1.03 carat stone would be described as ‘one point zero three carats.’
HOW IMPORTANT SHOULD DIAMOND CARAT SIZE BE WHEN BUYING A DIAMOND?
- More than a diamond carat weight, diamond colour and clarity are essential to determine the pricing. Bigger diamonds to higher quality diamonds has more to do with character and clarity than it has to do with cost. When you select a larger diamond, the quality of the diamond, or lack thereof, is more prominent.
